NRF PROTECT 2018, the premier retail loss prevention event, is well underway in Dallas. The first two days of the conference attracted 2,500 people in the loss prevention field and delivered dozens of sessions along with many unexpectedly emotional and inspirational moments. Heroic Southwest Airlines pilot delivers keynote address
Captain Tammie Jo Shults, the Southwest Airlines pilot who safely landed a plane after one of its engines exploded, shared the story of that fateful day, along with insight into what she's learned since the experience, saying life hasn’t been the same since landing the damaged plane. The former Navy pilot made headlines due to her steady handling of Southwest Airlines flight 1380's emergency landing.

When retail comes to the rescue
The 2017 Atlantic hurricane season was one of the worst to date in American history, with Hurricanes Harvey, Irma and Maria devastating many communities. Retailers played a critical role in rebuilding those communities, from providing food, water and shelter, to rescuing neighbors and providing financial support.

In an exclusive program for executives, retired Army Captain Chad Fleming shared an inspirational message about leadership, teamwork and tenacity. Critically wounded on multiple occasions, Fleming is one of a few special operations soldiers to return to fight after an amputation.

Loss prevention experts recognized
A prosecutor, a veteran retail LP executive who started as a security guard and an LP team that helped stop an organized crime ring were honored at NRF PROTECT 2018. The Ring of Excellence Award, Law Enforcement Retail Partnership Award and the Loss Prevention Case of the Year Award will all be presented at the conference this year.
Technology at work
Abercrombie & Fitch’s Caleb Popow, regional manager of asset protection for the southeast region, discussed how the company is combatting shrink with predictive analytics.

Women in LP
More than 120 people gathered for the Women in LP Luncheon, where visual intelligence expert Amy Herman presented on how to sharpen observation, analysis and communication skills.
