| Organized Crime, Loss Prevention
Organized retail crime is continuing to grow, with nearly three-quarters of retailers surveyed reporting an increase in the past year, according to the 14th annual ORC study released today by the National Retail Federation.
| Thanksgiving, Consumer Trends, Winter Holidays
According to the annual survey released by NRF and Prosper Insights & Analytics, of those planning to shop during the long holiday weekend 21 percent (34 million) plan to shop on Thanksgiving Day, but Black Friday will remain the busiest day with 71 percent (116 million) planning to shop.

Retail sales in October increased 0.4 percent over September on a seasonally adjusted basis and were up 5.6 percent year-over-year unadjusted.

Three years after the switch to new chip-based credit and debit cards, a study by NRF and Forrester says payment card fraud is still a top concern for large U.S. retailers as criminals move their activities online.

Imports at the nation’s major retail container ports have slowed down from their pre-holiday peak but remain at unusually high levels as retailers continue bringing in merchandise before tariffs increase in January, according to the monthly Global Port Tracker report from NRF and Hackett Associates.

Retail industry employment in October remained essentially unchanged from September and U.S. businesses overall added 250,000 jobs, more than double September’s monthly gain.
