See first-hand how artificial intelligence is transforming retail

Driven by the leaps in generative AI tools like ChatGPT, we are in the midst of an AI revolution across all industries. There is no question that AI is already reshaping retail, but most people don’t know how exactly that is being done and all the different ways AI can make our lives better — both for consumers and retailers.

This year’s Innovation Lab features a handpicked diverse set of AI companies that have had proven success driving big, categorical change for retailers and consumers: Think AI agents that support customer service tickets better than humans, AI that draws connections between personality traits such as neuroticism and agreeableness and style preferences to provide totally unique shopping visits, and AI that powers in-vehicle payments making drive-thru and curbside pick-up even more seamless.

Meet the latest and realest in autonomous robotics

Retail stores across the country like BJ’s Wholesale Club, Lowe’s and Walmart are utilizing robots to help with day-to-day tasks including inventory management, stocking shelves and picking and packing orders. The adoption of robotics has doubled in the past six years, largely due to improved economics and viability of the technology.

As advancements continue and technology becomes more and more sophisticated, some of the companies in this year’s Lab are helping drive that momentum forward. You’ll find the first commercial humanoid robot designed for friendly interaction, mass manufacturability, high payloads and safety; the world’s first autonomous robotic solution that can climb existing racks from floor-to-ceiling; and the first Robotics-as-a-Service automated storage and retrieval system for ecommerce.

Understand how retailers are keeping your data safe

As a consumer goes through the typical shopping journey, especially online, multiple data points are extracted along the way, including through websites, emails, forms and social media — with little consumer awareness of how exactly that data will be used and where it goes. There are many high-profile instances of retail data breaches and, especially in the age of AI, consumers deserve to know that retailers are handling their data ethically and responsibly.

At this year’s Lab, you’ll get a behind-the-scenes look at technologies that are helping companies become good stewards of consumers’ data, including an app that’s designed to verify your identity and protect your privacy on the apps you use every day, a digital identity platform that protects against bots and serial returners, the only biometric identity and payments platform, and a decentralized solution that protects personal data, preventing breaches and fraud.
