Retail in the Green Mountains
When you think of Vermont you probably think of lush green mountains, pristine lakes, green pastures, vibrant and colorful foliage and fantastic Northeast skiing. You should also think retail. We get to live, work and play in one of the country’s most beautiful states, but we can also shop here.
An important part of the state’s economy, retail in Vermont employs more than 67,000 people when coupled with food service. Vermont retailers serve as community centers where neighbors meet neighbors, and visitors feel welcome and have plenty of opportunity to take home that special something to remember their visit — maple syrup, artisanal cheese, Vermont fine crafts and more!
We were very proud to partner with NRF’s Retail Across America campaign and visit stores from Manchester in the south to North Hero in the north, with stops in Burlington and Stowe between. Learn more about Vermont retail through some of these interviews; they give a picture of what the state is all about and the importance of our many merchants to their communities.

The overwhelming majority of retailers are small businesses, with more than 98 percent of all retail companies employing fewer than 50 people. See how small retailers contribute to their communities and the economy: Access the latest news and resources for small business retailers.
We set out on a road trip to find the most powerful retail stories across the United States, showing how retailers large and small are creating jobs, driving innovation and giving back to the communities they serve. This is Retail Across America.
