A retailer's guide to tariffs
VP, Supply Chain & Customs Policy

Confused about tariffs? Don’t worry, so are many businesses. NRF has heard from many members asking about when tariffs have or will take effect. The ongoing uncertainty makes it difficult for businesses to plan, and President Trump said this morning that he might wait until after the 2020 elections to reach a trade agreement with China.

Waiting another year for a trade deal with China would be a bad deal for the U.S. economy. As NRF Chief Lobbyist David French said in a statement, “We want and need to see a deal as soon as possible. The tariffs continue to hurt U.S. businesses, workers and consumers and are a substantial drag on the U.S. economy.”
