Video games have come a long way since the early days of Nintendo and Mario Kart. While still addictive to their audience, the distinction between the screen and real life was clear. Now those lines are blurred, helped along by Design Home and Glu Mobile.

Check out other innovations that are bringing the virtual and real worlds together here.

A game with developed creatives in mind, Design Home allows its users to style and decorate virtual rooms with products that are not only purchasable but can be delivered to their doorsteps in real life.

Design Home has upwards of 90 million downloads to date, according to Glu Mobile President and CEO Nick Earl, and a daily count of over 1 million users this year. With each room a player decorates, other users decide on its rating. In return, players receive a discount at the Design Home Inspired store where white-label products are sold for their real-life homes. As purchases are made, customers earn Diamonds as money to play another session in the game.

This year has given many the opportunity to work from home and households are spending more time within those four walls. As a result, consumers have shown a growing desire to decorate and personalize their spaces. Design Home gives them both the experience of shopping and the ability to “try out” products.

As convenient as Design Home Inspired is, it’s also affordable: Products at the virtual store cost anywhere from $10 to $1,500. The pricing is comparable to off-price retailers with an added value proposition of seeing it in a simulated space before purchase. The app is free to download.
