Elevating the industry through smarter distribution

Timberey Meeks admits that distribution centers generally aren’t considered the most glamorous parts of the retail industry. But she knows that they are the heartbeat of any successful operation. “Without the right merchandise in the stores, delivered in a timely manner, any business is doomed to fail,” she says. As an operations analyst at The Container Store, she would certainly be one to know.

Timberey’s drive to continually improve the company’s operations has made her the master of a myriad of different logistical functions — she troubleshoots software, installs hardware, programs radio frequency devices, writes standard operating procedure manuals and trains employees. Recently, she learned the SQL programming language so she could better mine information from the company’s various databases. While she acknowledges that the learning curve was a little steep, it was just another part of her commitment to ensuring The Container Store stays “quick, nimble and agile.”

“If you want to go further, know more and dream bigger, you have to have a great education under your belt.”

Her embrace of constant optimization applies to her career path as well. Armed with a bachelor’s degree in management from University of Phoenix, Timberey believes that she could someday become vice president of the company’s massive logistics and distribution operations. “If you want to go further, know more and dream bigger, you have to have a great education under your belt.”
