This highly interactive learning and networking event is designed to provide a candid look at the retail industry and explore how retailers can partner strategically with workforce and job readiness organizations to help the millions of people served by by those groups explore promising retail careers.
There is no registration fee to attend the event! The Retail Works Summit is being underwritten by the NRF Foundation. Once you apply to attend, the NRF Foundation will review your details and be in touch within 10 business days with an update on your status. If your registration is approved, you will receive confirmation details and instructions for reserving your hotel accommodation. Attendees are responsible for their own travel and accommodation costs. However, a portion of the hotel room rate will be subsidized for workforce and job readiness attendees.

The first full day of the Summit will focus on how the retail industry powers America’s workforce, including opportunities for workers, industry trends and requirements, and the very real and immediate needs of employers, which the workforce system is positioned to address.

9:15am – 10:15am How Retail Powers the American Workforce
There's more to retail than products and consumers. A lot more. Chris Baldwin, President and CEO of BJ’s Wholesale Club and Chairman of the NRF Board, discusses the state of the retail industry and shares the impact retail jobs have on American communities, and why talent is more important than ever to the industry’s future. Following his presentation, Chris will answer questions from the audience.
10:15am – 11:15am New study: Wage Progression & Benefits in Retail
Good jobs changes lives. In this session, Mercer presents findings from a new study on wage progression and benefits in the retail industry. A panel of retailers will also share how their companies are investing in workforce through benefits programs, internal training and other educational initiatives. Confirmed panelists include: Jacqui Canney, EVP, Global People Strategy, Walmart and Christine Deputy, CHRO and EVP of Human Resources, Nordstrom.
11:30am - 12:30pm The Growth and Shift of Retail Jobs
Retail jobs lead to promising careers. In this session, learn from Emsi about a new report on how entry-level retail jobs provide verified career pathways to advancement and opportunities that go beyond store-based or "frontline" retail operations. A panel of retailers will also share information about the diversity of roles and professional development programs within their organizations. Confirmed panelists include Justin Smith, VP Talent Planning and Acquisition, Qurate Retail Group.

1:30pm – 2:30pm CEO Fireside Chat: Building a Workforce to Meet the Needs of Today’s Customers
The customer is always -- changing, and as the customer evolves, so must the retail industry. In this fireside chat, Macy's CEO Jeff Gennette and Chicago-Cook Workforce Partnership's Karin Norrington-Reaves discuss how Macy's has adapted to its shopper's needs, and the benefits of a retailer-workforce partnership.

3:45 pm – 4:30pm The Workforce of the Future – What to Expect & How to Prepare
Hear from PwC about the technological, social and demographic trends influencing the workforce of the future, how jobs will change, the implications for workers and how we prepare them to compete. A reaction panel will explore how retailers and workforce boards might collaborate to equip workers with the skills they need to succeed as jobs evolve.
