The Federal Reserve recently announced that it plans to clarify that banks must allow retailers to decide where to route all debit card transactions for processing the same as they do with in-store debit card transactions. This proposed regulation will positively impact retailers by increasing competition needed to bring routing fees under control.
With the accelerated shift to online spending during the pandemic, this issue is more important than ever. The lack of routing ability has cost retailers billions of dollars and driven up prices for consumers. These routing fees are an added expense businesses can’t afford as they work to recover from the economic impacts of COVID-19.

Congress is currently considering the Protecting the Right to Organize Act, known as the PRO Act. This bill would drastically rewrite current labor laws in favor of organized labor and at the expense of retailers and their workforces. The PRO Act is bad for businesses and worse for workers while pandemic hardships continue.
