How retail gives back: Tanna Dang's "This is Retail" story
Retail is woven in the fabric of communities across the country. And when you have a store owner who recognizes the transformative power of the industry - to connect, educate and sustain local economies across the world - it's easy to see why this Hawaii boutique is in the running for America's Best Retail story. Today’s Top 5 finalist spotlight is Tanna Dang, owner of Eden in Love in Honolulu, Hawaii. Retail has created opportunity for Tanna, providing a jump start to her career 12 years ago in a small boutique much like the one she owns today. Tanna’s goal – in the event that she wins – and one of her reasons for entering the "This is Retail" contest is to be able to grant opportunities to those who may not be as fortunate. With her winnings, Tanna has planned to help a village in Thailand or China by supplying tools and training to sustain healthy living. But Tanna's philanthropic personality started at home. In January, Eden in Love and The Wedding Cafe hosted a special styling session with nine patients from the Kapiolani Medical Center’s Pediatric Oncology Department to provide a few hours of girlish delight for those battling cancer. Each girl had their hair and makeup done, picked out and kept special outfits from the store, and had pictures taken by a professional photographer. This is just one example of the two boutiques hosting community service projects and fundraisers to benefit their Honolulu community. Take a look at her video and see the ways Eden in Love creates opportunity to do good, give back and make a difference in the Honolulu community - and maybe one day, beyond.
