NRF’s Consumer View is a quarterly look at what shapes today's retail. In the Winter 2017/2018 report, NRF examines consumer attitudes toward fulfillment and shipping, the importance of experience in retail and what types of innovations engage shoppers.
- Rising demand for fast and free shipping: 68 percent of consumers expect free shipping for orders under $50 and 38 percent of consumers expect retailers to offer free two-day shipping.
- Retail events and entertainment build the experience: A quarter of consumers are very interested in retail events or experiences such as product demonstrations, parties and pop-up shops. They can be particularly effective in engaging millennial men, 60 percent of whom expressed strong interest in these types of events.
- Subscription box usage remains low. However, 73 percent of existing subscription box customers have started using more of these types of services in the last year.
