The State of the Retailing Online series, a Shop.org study conducted by Forrester Research, provides important benchmarks for online retailers.

Key investments in customer experience helped digital retail businesses grow an average of 29 percent in 2013. Growth of sales via smartphones and tablets has been significant, with store-based retailers reporting an average 135 percent year-over-year growth in sales from smartphones and 86 percent from tablets. Shop.org and Forrester Research surveyed 70 retailers for the State of Retailing Online report, and more than half plan to make mobile efforts a top priority in 2014, focusing on key areas including responsive design and mobile site optimization.
