NRF Foundation is seeking a Director, Learning & Credentials to join its team.  This person is a key member of the team responsible for strategic planning, development and oversight of the NRF Foundation’s existing $1M+ credentialing portfolio. Individual will lead efforts in maintaining the relevance of the NRF Foundation’s existing suite of credentials, creating new learning programs, contributing to overall strategy, and engaging with the Foundation team to evolve this important portfolio of work.

Essential Functions

  • Partners with key stakeholders to create objectives, programs, products and offerings which align with the industry’s workforce needs and meet the needs of a diverse set of delivery partners and learners
  • Designs and leads projects that increase the NRF Foundation’s portfolio of high-quality, employer-validated credentials that meet the talent development goals of the diverse and dynamic retail industry
  • Works with retailers and delivery partners to continually improve training and credentialing products in RISE Up portfolio; conceptualizes and creates new learning programs based on industry needs or market opportunities
  • Collaborates with colleagues inside NRF, retail executives and vendors as appropriate to conduct learning needs assessments, audience analysis, skill standard development, curriculum design, assessment design and delivery, program design and create credential adoption
  • Determines and validates priorities for credential development, including the creation of standardized processes and a long-term roadmap to guide this work 
  • Substantively contributes to ongoing work related to learner data management, learning management systems, cultivating educational partners, marketing, and other elements essential to the creation, deployment, and adoption of credentials at scale
  • Identifies and collaborates with potential partners to create additional learning programs under RISE Up
  • Evaluates existing credential methods and resources; identifies, monitors, analyzes and remains abreast of key developments and trends in credentialing
  • Remains current on industry trends and workforce research to evaluate products and offerings that should be modified or created
  • Ensures alignment with the NRF Foundation team to understand credentialing program revenues and expenses; makes strategic recommendations for investment
  • Selects and manages consultants, contractors and other vendors responsible for curriculum development and exams
  • Recruits and selects qualified subject matter experts to participate in job needs assessments, skill standard development, and exam item writing sessions
  • Interacts with talent executives, delivery partners, and other key stakeholders to better understand workforce challenges and changes, and create learning programs with maximum impact
  • Provides feedback on marketing and communications outreach to support adoption and awareness of RISE Up credentials
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Background/Skills/Abilities

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in education or human resources required; advanced degree preferred
  • A minimum of 8 years’ experience in training delivery, instructional design, learning technologies and/or credentialing management
  • Experience developing and delivering web-based, instructor-led, and blended-learning solutions for young people and adults, including but not limited to training materials, credentials, badges, micro-credentials and books
  • Strategic thinker with the ability to identify, articulate and implement creative solutions to complex problems
  • Ability to communicate effectively with retailers, delivery partners, foundations and other key stakeholders
  • Previous responsibility managing people, including contractors or consultants, and a budget
  • Demonstrated success in developing and building relationships with outside partners
  • Knowledge of core education, workforce development, and economic development systems
  • High-level of professionalism and ability to work well with all levels of internal management and staff
  • Exceptional interpersonal communication skills
  • Detail-oriented self-starter and strategic thinker with high energy and the ability to work independently, accurately and on schedule
  • Error-free writer with strong proofreading skills and high attention to detail
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects and people simultaneously, and follow through on issues in a timely manner
  • Ability to work and collaborate as a part of a motivated, driven team
  • Previous experience or background in retail preferred
  • Travel required
