The Retail Monitor calculation of core retail sales (excluding restaurants in addition to automobiles and gasoline) was up 0.95% month over month in July and up 1.69% year over year. That compared with increases of 0.3% month over month and 3.07% year over year in June
The CNBC/NRF Retail Monitor, powered by Affinity Solutions, offers a headline, month-over-month look at retail sales performance for 9 core retail sectors, plus restaurants.
July sales were up in six out of nine retail categories on a yearly basis, led by online sales, health and personal care stores and clothing and accessories stores. Sales were up in all but one category on a monthly basis.
Affinity Solutions has amended the originally released July 2024 category-level data. The updated data is reflected in the chart.
