Take a Shelfie
On a scale of one to 10, how annoying is it to get to the grocery store and find an empty shelf where the item you intended to buy should be stacked?
If you’re inclined to rate that hassle at the high end, you might consider downloading a new app called Shelfie, which gives customers rewards for tracking empty shelves.
The app, developed by Cincinnati-based marketing analysts Datacrowd, encourages shoppers to take a ‘shelfie’ -- a picture of the empty shelf and accompanying product tag -- every time they come across one. Shoppers can then easily send the image along with their GPS location to the Datacrowd team.
In return, consumers are offered reward points that can be redeemed in-store or used to purchase other participating brands. The team at Datacrowd takes charge, alerting the supermarkets with specific information about when, where and which products are out of stock. The goal is simple: reduce the incidence of empty shelves. The iOS- and Android-compatible Shelfie app is free to download.
